Sooo I am all about charity. When DeNita Lavis told me that she had a friend who could use a good emcee to help make his auction flow, I had to sign-up.
The event was held at a home in Highland Park, and believe it or not I was there early-yes I made it there before the event started and immediately began introducing myself to everyone.
I made a new friend as we were both nervous about being at the event solo, and soon everyone began to trickle in one by one.
I thought for a second, Jabari Johnson, the founder of the Heads Up! organization told me to wear black--but naw! I decided to wear a colorful long JLo inspired ensemble. I think it went over pretty well with everyone because I did get a few compliments. But it was chilly that night and I kept thinking, why didn't I just wear a long sleeve black dress?
Back to the kids, so the charity is all about helping Dallas youth to succeed. Which I love because so often I report on stories about kids who didn't know there were other ways around selling drugs and gang activity.
I was given the mic and a list of names of people who were going to be auctioned for dates. The money would go to this great charity, so I started immediately pumping up the crowd.

I also staged someone in the audience to try and make sure Ms.
Amanda had a few bucks more than the other people--I know
But the funny thing is, my friend Mr. Don bid on someone
else so I guess that taught me a lesson haha
I kept telling the
audience, hey I brought my own money, where are you guys with money hiding your
money--its for charity people!!!--yeah everyone laughed..
a really good time that night. I got a chance to meet Mrs. Henderson from
Henderson Chicken-yum, she kept saying "God is Good girl!" I agreed and asked
for a hook-up on some chicken--hahaha
I also met a fashion
designer, her publicist a soror and a lot of other great
But the highlight of the night was deffinitely my
bidding war with myself. Seriously, I was the emcee, so I had to ask the people
there to bid big bucks for me, I somehow managed to get $268 bucks! It was all
worth it because it was for charity.
Next year, I'm brining a
whole group of people so we can get the number to triple digits :)
Emcee, "Heads Up Foundation" Celebrity Auction; A date with me cost $268-and it was all for charity!
