I must admit, it was one of the first events I covered as a reporter when I first arrived in Dallas nearly 5 years ago~
I was so excited to see that it's still around despite the ongoing battle between the FBI and Kwanzaafest creator Dallas County Commissioner John Wiley Price.
(Click here to see my sit down interview with Mr. Price about those charges.)
Nonetheless, Price has maintained a man of the community and spoke to me about the significance of the festival.

The festival offers free healthcare services to thousands. Dr. Zach Thompson from the Dallas County Health Dpt set-up a mobile healthcare van. Some free services included free EKG tests, Health screenings, STI screenings, Kidney screenings and more. They also offered vaccinations and health education. Kwanzaafest has become a staple of family friendly activities and services needed by the community. it has maintained FREE admission to the public, thanks to sponsors. |
I really appreciate all of the love I get from the people who watched Nightcap on CW33, and those who tune in to see what I'm doing now. Along with this couple and a few other loyal viewers who said they missed watching me on the news.
The festival offers mini concerts, this year Artists B.O.B and Teyanna Taylor were just a few to hit the big stage.
The event brought out a lot of the uninsured who count on the health fair each year for medical services, Mr. Price says it will be back again next year, and even bigger and better!
I also saw the lovely actress from the movie Soul Food, remember her?? I took a pic with Elyssa Lassiter, my soror and friend/former colleague at CW33. DG my photographer and her fiance were also there to enjoy the festivities and even snapped a few pics!
