People were out last night dressed in their sexiest black attire, and ready to celebrate radio personality K104 morning show host DeDe McGuire's birthday!

The party at Pho House in Dallas brought out radio and TV personalities from all over the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

As one event ended, people began to fill the place ready to celebrate!  The dance floor was packed, and people were lining up to take photos of the host and birthday girl! It was so awesome seeing so many beautiful and handsome faces in one place.

I attended the screening of Esquire’s, FRIDAY NIGHT TYKES, at The Alamo Drafthouse in Richardson.
The season premiere kicked off with a few laughs and a few tears.  Watching a young girl try to play football for the first time, after being bullied for her weight and size really touched my heart.
The event had a good turnout, with NFL player and 2 X Superbowl winner Bethel Johnson speaking about sports today.

SELMA MOVIE INSPIRES

1/10/2015

When I think of the movie Selma, one word comes to mind "powerful." Honestly that's just one of many adjectives to describe the thought-provoking, inspirational, vivid, emotional roller coaster, and inspiring story of what our ancestors went through in America in the 1960s.
The early screening at Studio Movie Grille in Dallas brought out Senator Royce West, Councilman Dwaine Carraway, County Commissioner John Wiley Price and hundreds of others to see the film before it hit theaters January 9th.
The movie does not tell you the entire story of the civil rights movement, nor is it and autobiography of Martin Luther King JRs life. But instead focuses on a very important part of the civil rights movement, voting equality for Blacks.

The way that the movie is done, you felt like you were there. The director took her time really telling the story, scene by scene, moment by moment you really got a better understanding of what people were going through during that time.

If you're someone that hates to see movies that talk about those rough times, you can
watch this movie, have your cry moments like I did, but then still feel empowered, and moved, and motivated when you walk out of the theater. The actors do a wonderful job portraying their characters, and surprisingly the movie has scenes that mirror what we see today with the Ferguson protest.

I really liked how the characters demonstrated the bravery it took to walk from Selma to Montgomery on a 54 mile hike, facing a dangerous mob of people.

Picture
It also shows that there were more people involved in the movement, that it wasn't just Martin Luther King Jr. but Ralph Abernathy, John Lewis, Hosea Williams and so many others.

This is definitely a movie that everyone should see, for Blacks & Whites it is an opportunity to create dialogue and look at how far we've come as a race.

For people who migrated to the US, this movie shows a part of history that is often forgotten.  It also shows how brave African Americans were in securing rights for all people.  Please see this movie because it's an opportunity for you to see what blacks had to go through to create the society that we all live in today.

When I turn on the TV and I see reality shows that portray African American women as yelling, fighting, irritated fussy, angry women, I think that there's going to be a time when we find better ways to Portray ourselves, and a role model forour future stars.

Television plays an important role in how people view us, this movie reminds me that we come from a strong group of survivors and I hope that as more people watch this movie they will be inspired to do better and to represent those who lost their lives for us to be able to dream big, work, and live equally. So that those who suffered and died will be proud, and know it all wasn't in vain.

Selma movie is in theaters now , check out the photos from the early screening hosted by I messenger and allied media.

When Clarence Hill Jr asked me to help invite people out for a meet n greet with ESPN's Jemele Hill and Michael Smith, I thought wow this will be great!
But I had no idea just how many people would show up and the great networking opportunity that would take over the foundation room that night.  The National Association of Black Journalists DFW chapter in association with the NABJ sports task force wanted to showcase two of its active members.

ESPN "His&Hers" TV personalities Michael Smith & Jemele Hill, who were welcomed to Dallas in style.  With just about three days notice Star-Telegram sports reporter Clarence Hill, NBC 5 assignment editor Stephen Wright, along with NABJ leaders Cheryl Smith, Eva Coleman (and I helped) brought out more than a hundred journalists, Business professionals, attorneys, NFL players, and sports analysts, and so many more!

If you're looking for a good laugh, Addison improv is the place to go this weekend. When I told my friends about comedian Tone Bell, some didn't quite know who he was, they weren't certain about what to expect.

But I knew him from starring in the comedic show "Bad Judge" on NBC!!! He's also starred in multi-camera comedy "Whitney."

Born and raised in Atlanta, the stand-up comedian began his career in Dallas, where he was voted one of the Funniest Comics in Texas.

Picture
Bell's real-life brand of comedy has seen him succeed on both the comedy festival circuit as well as previously on NBC as the winner of the Stand Up For Diversity program. Tone recently was a guest on the Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson and Tone can be seen next on Comedy Central's “Key and Peele.”

He is a really cool dude got a chance to meet him through comedian and fellow reporter Jasmine Ellis, we all had a good time afterwards at the piano bar again good show if you want some good laughs.

Addison Improv ages 21 & over. book tickets Jan 9, 2015 - Jan 11, 2015

HONORED TO EMCEE JUDGE KIM COOKS SWEARING IN CEREMONY

Dallas County has been blessed with another newly appointed Judge, her name is Kim Cooks.  I met her 5 years ago when I first to moved to Dallas and we became friends.  But we call each other sisters, and when I found out that my sister Kim was going to run for Judge, I was super excited.
As a young, minority going against all odds Judge Cooks and her friend Andrea Martin worked tirelessly to win over hearts and ultimately votes, landing both on them on Dallas Counties judges bench!
I'm so proud of Kim's hard work and tenacity and now as she sits on the bench I know that she will do a great job and the city will be better because of her!
Check out the photos from the swearing in ceremony, that I was able to emcee.  Pastor Freddie Haynes of Friendship Baptist Fellowship gave spiritual advice while Senator Royce West and others gave heartfelt introductions.
