I attended The Urban League of Greater Dallas Young Professionals' Gender in Media: The Mistruths in Reality conference, and I must say it was a very informative and inspiring event that people of all ages could attend! NABJ award-winning writer, anti-domestic violence activist and founder of Truth In Reality Sil Lai Abrams was the keynote speaker for the evening. Her organization works to combat the promotion of "interpersonal violence as an acceptable way to handle conflict which also causes viewers to internalize negative perceptions of Black women while simultaneously reinforcing cultural acceptance of their abuse." There was also a panelist of guests who spoke about different topics. I had a great time and learned a lot and want to join the TruthInReality Movement! I strongly recommend that people get involved!

The National Association of Black Journalists convention in Orlando, Florida is now over, but I am so thankful for having the opportunity to attend! While I was there, I was able to network with so many people and even attend a NASCAR party. Although I did not win, I am so honored to have been nominated for the "Salute to Excellence in Reporting" journalism award; and spend time with so many successful African Americans in the media world ranging from anchors and reporters, to producers and editors. Check out my pictures below!
